Rubens "Rubao Carioca" Rodrigues
7th degree Black Belt Rubens Rodrigues was born in Rio de Janeiro and started training Judo at the age of 12. When he was 18 he enlisted in the army and was chosen for Special Forces/Artilharia. After his discharge he received his black belt in Judo from the Hermany Academy in Ipanema (Rio de Janeiro). In 1987 Rubens started teaching for Reylson Gracie at his academy in Rio. He moved to the United States in 1994 and received is Black Belt from Joe Morira in 1996. He moved to North Carolina in 1999 and started teaching in Reidsville. In 2005 he opened his own academy in Mebane. He has been a champion in many Judo and Jiu Jitsu tournaments and holds a 3-1 record as an MMA fighter. Rubens has trained hundreds of people in Jiu Jitsu, Judo, self-defense, MMA, and law enforcement tactics. His black belt is certified through the IBJJF.
